Saturday, April 13, 2002: Newsletter Update

Things are moving ahead toward our publication date of July 1, 2002. My editor says the book will actually exist on June 1 and will begin to ship to bookstores on June 12. July 1 is the date it is supposed to be 'available everywhere.'

In the meantime, we've finalized copy for the book jacket back and inside flaps, and two wonderful authors have given me great quotes for the jacket. Here they are:

"Sharon Wyse's The Box Children is a brave, harrowing, deeply felt story of one North Texas girl's coming of age against the odds dealt to her by family, gender and place. Wyse writes with the surety of a born novelist, displaying grace, intelligence and dark humor in a tale about being trapped and breaking free."
Lisa Shea, author of a wonderful novel, Hula

"I did not put this book down—not even to wipe my tears. Sharon Wyse has just grabbed my respect, my adoration and my awe with this treasure. The Box Children is a powerful book that shines a bright light on precious vulnerability."
Norma Bradley Allen, author of The Quilters

In other news, I'm planning a tour of major Texas cities for mid-July, and a combination recital-reading in Houston where I spent my twenties. If anyone has any Texas media contacts to share, please let me know!

Thanks for your interest in The Box Children.
